On 1 July 1997 a landmark moment in communication history took place in Frankfurt am Main. Its subject was European monetary union — and its format was the first worldwide videoconference of its kind, developed under the leadership of Dr Nader Maleki.
The technical delivery was extraordinary for its time: the entire stage set-up was built and a global network established within a single day. More than 100 technicians worked continuously to connect Frankfurt, Brussels, Milan, London, New York, Washington and Tokyo for live interaction.
The event brought together more than 3,000 participants worldwide in real time across three time zones. International media reported live, setting a new benchmark for global communication that helped shape today’s technical standards.
